The insulation materials used include high quality goose down, fleece, pile, and primaloft. Down has the highest warmth to weight ratio but this loses its insulation properties when it becomes wet. Fleece and pile are similar as both are made from 100% polyester and are particularly good at keeping you warm when wet. Pile is the best at wicking away moisture so it performs better than fleece with a higher warmth to weight ratio. However, fleece is slightly softer against the skin whilst still maintaining excellent performance characteristis and is therefore generally more popular. Primaloft is a synthetic insulation material which compresses like down but is warm when wet and quick drying so it is better than either goose or duck down when used in damp weather conditions.
